Anetta Ameryk

Anetta’s path into knifemaking began naturally, through her hands. Long before blades, she was embroidering, repairing things at home, carving wooden spoons and bowls. Around the early 2000s, driven by a simple desire to make her own tool, she crafted her first whittling knife from an old file — an act her nephew later joked was an impressive midlife crisis!

Growing up in Poland in the late 1970s and 1980s, knives were part of everyday play: whittling sticks with a pocket knife, building bonfires, learning through use. In the 2010s, she began shaping handles for purchased blades, before deciding to make everything herself. Her first kitchen knives appeared in 2016 and were shared on a Polish knifemaking forum, where she found both encouragement and disbelief at the same time.

Over time, she moved from self-learning to forging, meeting other makers and learning directly from them. A key milestone came in 2022, when she joined the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) and attended the Intro to Bladesmithing course in South Africa. She's now preparing for her Journeyman Smith certification.

Most of Anetta’s knives are hand-forged, some featuring hamon, with handles made from self-stabilised birch burl, exotic woods, or antler. She also crafts all her leather sheaths herself. As an oceanographer, she additionally creates filleting knives designed for practical use.

For Anetta, knifemaking is a source of deep joy. Her intention is simple: to create tools that are both useful and beautiful, while preserving traditional techniques and passing them on. Her motto: “Let us do what brings us joy”.
